Golden Dahlias - Flatlay

Golden yellow dahlias are becoming quite popular (speaking for myself at least) so here is a flat lay of some that were flowering together. I was planning on putting these together through the season but never got around to it until April - hence the blooms being out of their prime. Keep scrolling down and there’s a profile and separate picture of each looking their best.

"Honeycomb"

This one has become a favourite of mine over the past few seasons. Mini Decorative honey golden blooms with pinkish tinted centres on a large bush make this a must-have for bouquets and arrangements. I found the cut stems (not flowers) have an interesting fragrance.

"Formby Crest"

This one’s a must-have for cutting - fabulous gold to orange blooms with a fabulous form on fabulous stems make this one a fabulous dahlia to have (need I say more?).

"Not Devon Valencia"

This is one I was lucky enough to purchase from Wild violet flower farm - its official ID is currently unknown so if you have any leads let me know. Shimmering golden blooms sit upright on top of good stems - fantastic for cutting. Some blooms during the season had quite big green eyes full of petals but soon filled in.

"Formby Delight"

This “delightful” Dahlia surprised me in terms of usefulness for cutting. Good-sized golden orange blooms on a tall growing productive bush - ticks all the boxes.

"Winkie Test Eagle"

My favourite out of all these - it boasts upright sitting blooms in the best shade of yellow/orange I’ve ever found in a dahlia. Blooms sit atop long strong stems - if you have the chance to add this stunner to your collection by all means take it.

"Blyton Softer Gleam"

I only had one bush of this one this season - I started with five tubers but most of them rotted so I’m guessing it’s a bit hard to keep. Its blooms are well worth it though, coming in the most exquisite blend of yellow to Orange on tall strong stems.

"Crichton Honey"

Blooms start off more orange at the beginning of the season then as the season goes on they mature to a golden champagne colour. The bushes of this cultivar are a bit smaller growing - still tall enough for cutting though so it’s a great one for either in the field or pots.

"Cornflake"

This is an interesting one - the flowers sometimes come out as plain orange which tends to be boring but when they come out two-toned they really are a sight. I’d recommend this one for the garden instead of cutting.
